You’ll have seen from this Blog that the borough of Rochdale has quite a lot going on; it’s not a cultural lacuna.  So I thought that I’d try to write a little bit about some of the organisations who’re doing things in Rochdale relating to either creative writing or to cultural opportunities.  They vary in terms of voluntary/charity/community-facilitated organisations and offer people different opportunities to get involved.

Cartwheel Arts: Is a Heywood based charity promoting social inclusion, diversity & regeneration through arts projects.

Langley Writers: This is a group of writers who meet at Demesne Community Centre, Asby Close, Middleton M24 4JF on the third Thursday of every month between 2.00pm and 4.00pm, all meetings are free of charge.

Takepart: a centralised hub of news and events, to showcase the work of arts organisations in and around the borough.

Touchstones Creative Writing Group: a thriving, and lively, community group dedicated to supporting and developing new writing in Rochdale. 2 – 4pm, first Thursday of each month at Touchstones Heritage Centre, £2 donation each session.  Sadly, this group are currently under threat from the ongoing budget cuts but currently they will be keeping on going while a consultation is in place. Fingers crossed they will still be going next year.
